Story line/ storyboard (Oringinal idea)

Initial Ideas as a Group
Tuesday 8th December

We as a group discussed different ways filming the title sequence but we decided to continue the story from our previous video " Morris, I Want Him Dead". Below is our final idea:

Jama productions in Association with A breezy LTD

Harri and Matt are seating down talking (in Harri’s Office). or Harri entering the room and meeting Matt seating on his chair.

Flashback of Matt and Ayo in a fighting scene with Matt’s voice over the clip: either in a toilet, classroom or outside the buildings.

Harri runs away and matt pulls out his gun, screen blacks out and then we see Harri on the floor struggling and crawling away.

Matt points a gun at a camera (camera from Harri’s view), when the screen goes blank the gun shoot goes off.

While the screen is black , we hear the pho
ne ring and Matt saying “ its done”

Title will appear from small print to big print on a black b
ackground.

This is a photo of our first storyboard, later changed and developed a few shots :

Developed Idea

- Vee would infiltrate Morris' office.
- Come across two guards, within the office.
- Deal with both guards, and then wait for the main target to arrive. -- For this idea to work we would have to show the past 'flashbacks' which I will comment on later withing this blog.
- There will be a short conversation between the hitman and the target, with the target then being assassinated/executed.

'The 5th Column' - the name gives the audience a tingling feeling about what our film is about and it was has meaning behind it that is associated with the word assassin which our movie is based on.

The actual meaning of 5th column is this;
"A fifth column is a group of people who undermine a larger group, such as a nation, from within, to the aid of an external enemy."

Drafts from our opening scene
Thursday 10th December

The first clips that our group filmed was the scene which involves me (Ayo) as Harri's bodyguard and Matthew Venis. In this clip we show a flashback of how Matthew Venis kills me (Ayo). We have done it in black and white colour to show that the action is in the past and not present.

1- Vee punches Ayo.
2- Vee tackles Ayo into the desk, papers fly off the table.
3- Vee drags Ayo across the desk and papers fly off the edge of the table.
4- Ayo falls off the table and lands in a heap.

5 - You See Ayo on the floor with the sound of Vee Cocking the gun in the backgorund

With feedback from audience we decided to extend and improve on this shot as we would finally see in the other draft shots.

second week of January
8th and 12th January 2010

Garage band - we as a group have used garage band in the second week of January. We are not too sure if we are going to use Garage band for our final background music.

Draft 1

we have completed a draft of our opening sequence but have noticed we have made a few mistakes such as lighting and continuity. We are now going to redo some of the ending shots in the next few does such as the camera shot of the Gun.

solution and improvement for draft 1

We have decided to change the scene where Harri walks. we are thinking of cutting up his walking and adding extra shots of Matt getting ready. Also we have had some progress on the garageband for our instrumental for our movie.

February ( completion)

We have decided to use Garage band to create our music and we have decided to re-film Harrighton's walking scene at the beginning also to cut out harrighton's whistling because we as a group feel that it sounds better and replace that with background music with the new remade scene. Also we are adding an extra shot, this type of a phone ringing and a conversation between between Guled Jama and Matthew Venis.

draft 2 of opening 2 minute sequence

This is our second draft and our unfinished version of our 2 minute opening sequence. We have used a range of different software's on the Mac during the m
aking of the filming, some recommending ones and some new ones we just tried out and find on the Mac. This also includes the improvement from draft 1 which invovles gun affects, refilmed Harri and Matthew talking scene and extending the fighting scene by adding a new character in. We still have the credits and the Non dieigetic music to include to our final piece of work.

Evaluation

This is our uncompleted version of the 2 minute opening title sequence and we have added and changed some of the shots that we planned in our storyboard. the changes we made was mainly prolonging the fighting scene to make it more interesting. Also Harrighton added gunshot effects to make the gunshots during the film more realistic.

The part we struggled with is the lighting , even though at the time of filming the lighting didnt change but whilst watching the film lighting and focus of the camera changes. This could be due to the quality of camera or the different angle shots we took.

softwares used:

  • Type live -We used this software to create the opening two credits : Jama production and AdotBREEZY LTD. This helped us by bringing our credits toa animation and the background of the credits

  • Imovie - editing movies and adding effects

  • Garage Band - creating our background music which will be non-diegetic for our final piece

this is photo's of our group, recording, filming and working during our coursework.

Final piece

Tuesday 9th February

This is our finished version with the credits, effects and background music , we have made a few changer during the three different versions such as , Harrighton's walk , extending the fight scene and adding a conversation between Matthew Venis and Guled Jama. the non-diegetic music we have used is the background music and the telephone. The diegetic sound is the gun shot effect that we have used a few times.

Location shots - oakgrove school classroom

Music analysis

With better knowledge of Garage band and a lot of thoughts we have ending up with the music that is played in the final film. We decided to use non-diegetic music for the titles at the beginning to give a feeling of what to come. We used piano to show the calm at the time of when Harrighton was walking to his office and finally we changed the music at the fight scene to give the audience tension and to up the beat.

Characters -
Harrighton Morris - director

Matthew Venis ( V)

Ayomide Babatunde (Bodyguard 1)

Emmanuel Ajala (Bodyguard 2)

Improvements/evaluation

The only improvements that I can think of are that we could have made the shooting more realistic but we don't have the resources for that. For example fake blood. also we could have picked a better location to shot our scene to make the 2 minute opening sequence more realistic as well.

Audience response

"
musics good mate, good intro ending good due to credits . easy to watch reflecting camera useage, eg the camera panning . good use of switching cameras eg harri walking through the door him being shot, you walking through the door, flows whole way through. fighting scene good use of software (Y) eg black and white, also good use of audio such as phone call at the end and throughout the video, eg being able to hear the characters. ect..

Annalee Thomas
"I thought it was really good. The music at the beginning really works well because it doesnt give away the scene too much but it still builds tension. I like how it shows the flashback in black and white and i thought that where the scene keeps cutting out to create that flashing effect was really effective. Also i like how the clock ticking created tension in the room when Harri walked in and how the low angle shot near the end gave the impression that Matt is a powerful character. Oh and the end is good too, because it makes you think what will happen next"

Phil Herwing
"the music at the begining like the piano playing works really well with the sounds in the background wen matt getting ready and that and then it cuts n harris silently walking the music at the end is really good the little like phone jacker thing and then when the music changes during the fight scene it compliments the upbeat tone of the scene.
the camera shots were really good and youy used a wide range of diffrent ones that worked well with the piece overall A+ guys :) "

Elliot Fraser
"that is real quality! like it a lot "
